Goals are just dreams with deadlines                                                                                                                      Bookmark and Share

I recently stumbled across a great line from Alice in Wonderland: “if you don’t know where you are going any road will take you there.”

In today’s fast paced society there are so many opportunities and considerations, we can find ourselves drifting along not really knowing where we are heading. Let alone knowing what we truly want out of life.

By seizing the moment and creating a list of goals you will find yourself achieving dreams you may have procrastinated over for years.

Goals setting is a proven technique used by successful people in all walks of life. By creating a goal, you are designing your future and taking control of your life.

Used goals before? Then you will be aware of the long-standing vision and motivation they can install as well as provide a structured and logical approach, especially if it feels like you don’t know where to start.

I recently had a wonderful client who came to me for life coaching. Lisa had been procrastinating over permanent residence in Sydney for over 5 months. It had affected her work and now began to impact her health. She came to coaching seeking clarity and direction. Within 4 weeks Lisa was regaining her normally vibrant health as she worked through the logical steps of what was holding her back from making a decision.

By using proven techniques and coaching tools in combination with asking challenging questions, Lisa found herself breaking down disempowering beliefs and replacing them with positive healthy habits and values to support her new found confidence. She learned self awareness tools that supported her so well she still uses them on a daily basis and now has greater self-belief of how she can make effective decisions and ‘run her own race’.

Creating goals:

A proven technique for ensuring success are SMART goals:

SPECIFIC: Vague goals lead to vague attempts to achieve them
MEASURABLE: To be able to evaluate your success
ATTRACTIVE: If you don’t truly want it, you’re unlikely to put in a sustained effort
REALISTIC: Are you able to achieve this goal at this moment?
TIMELY: What is an appropriate timeframe?

By ensuring your goals have a solid structure and foundation, you will be able to strive towards your goals with clarity and precision. The ultimate driver to our goal success is our subconscious mind. By using SMART goals, you are programming your subconscious mind to focus on solutions rather than finding obstacles for failure.

Ensure each goal is stated in a positive, present tense and be precise with your timescale. Bring your goals to life by keeping a journal of your progress and remember to reevaluate, refocus and stretch your goals to ensure they are always on track.

So what are you waiting for?

Here are some starting points for your goals….

Attitude: What new attitudes will open doors of opportunity?
Creativity: How do I want to express myself?
Family: Where can I strengthen my relationships?
Financial: How much money do I want to earn, save and invest?
Fun: How can I see the funny side of life?
Health: How can I best support my body and mind?
Job: How can I gain complete fulfillment from my career?
Partner: How can I be a better communicator to my partner?
Work/life Balance: How can I get some happening?
